Fishing at Bayside Resort
One of the most popular questions we often receive about our location is whether there are fish here! Yes, there are plenty of prized Rainbow Trout, Pike and Cisco (Whitefish) in this bay and other popular fish species can be found in nearby inland lakes. For this you’re recommended to do your research prior to securing your cabin booking. For details on this search up the ‘Zone 14’ fishing area.
We are a big supporter of our local fisheries. For many years Bayside Resort has been host site in collaboration with the Manitoulin Ice Showdown (formerly known as the Wikwemikong Ice Fishing Derby). This is a highly popular event drawing in over 700 participants in 2020 with the opportunity to out fish TV Host Bob Izumi. The Ice Showdown is now held the 3rd weekend in February.
Bayside Resort and its prime location for fishing have been featured twice on television. The ‘Canadian Sport Fishing’ show features our log cabins in several Youtube videos.
BOAT DOCKING AND LAUNCH:
New boat docking has been available for our guests’ boats since 2014 at no extra charge. We have ample parking on site, also at no extra charge. For boat trailers we have designated areas in our lot to accommodate parked boats of any size.
A boat launch site is close by, but not on site. The closest launch to us is directly across the bay at the closest marina in Manitowaning. For added convenience we have a modern fish cleaning station on site. This station is made available to our guests from mid-May to mid-October, weather dependent.
At Bayside Resort we only focus on offering guests’ accommodations. There are no added extra fees here.
We provide two paddleboats on site which are available for any/ all of our guests, but these are not rentals, they are free for you to use at your choosing. We also have a variety of sizes of life jackets to suit you when using the paddleboats.
Boat and motor rentals are the only thing that’s not available at Bayside Resort. For the rental of a boat during your stay or for enquiries on local fishing charters and guided fishing tours please do your research prior to arrival. There are businesses that offer these services on Manitoulin Island.
For ice fishing we do not supply ice fishing gear for rent. If you should decide during your stay that you would like to go fishing, several nearby shops sell a wide variety of fishing supplies for both winter and summer, including Fishing licences.
Please ensure that you have your up-to-date Ontario Fishing Licence handy and always fish within your set limits. Thank you!
